JOHN W. KROPF

John Kropf served as the Chief Privacy Officer for Northrop Grumman Corporation for over ten years, building the company’s first ever global privacy office. Mr. Kropf previously served 23 years in the federal government in legal and policy roles. His last position was the Deputy Chief Privacy officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, as a career member of the Senior Executive Service.
He currently teaches at the George Washington University Law School as an adjunct professor and has served on multiple advisory boards including the DHS Data Privacy and Integrity Committee and the University of Pittsburgh Institute for Cyber Law, Policy, and Security. John is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), where he is a distinguished Westin Emeritus Fellow, and holds CIPP/US, CIPP/G, and CIPP/EU Certifications.
He earned his law degree and masters degree in public and international affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and his undergraduate degree from Denison University.
He is co-author of the book, The Guide to U.S. Government Practice on Global Sharing of Personal Information (3rd Ed.). He has written and spoken extensively on data privacy for U.S. and global audiences. Selected examples can be found here. He is also the author of three other books.
